It is required by the Board that the applicant holds one of the following:
- An earned Master’s Degree
- Documented ecclesiastical training
- Graduate-level course or equivalent in:
- Counseling
- Bible
- Theology
- Or it is required that the applicant have been practicing as a clearly defined Christian or pastoral counselor for a minimum of two years.
- The applicant is recognized by a creditable agency as a practicing Christian counselor or ordained minister in the State of Georgia or has a minimum of two years of counseling experience.
- All applicants must submit a list of at least three character references and a written summary of counseling and/or ministry backgrounds.
After the application has been received, and upon information verification, applicants shall be contacted for a telephone interview. Note: Your application will not be processed until your payment has been processed.
The application fee is $250 (non-refundable) for 2 years and includes the following:
- A Georgia Board for Christian Counselors magnetic lapel pin
- An ID badge holder and clip so you can display your certification
- Membership in the Georgia Christian Counselors Association: All members will be able to fill out their profile when their certification is processed completely.
- 10% discount on any courses or conferences put on or supported by either the Georgia Board for Christian Counselors or the Georgia Christian Counselors Association.
Providing incorrect or partially incomplete applications will cause a delay until the problems are corrected.
How to apply for Board certification with the Georgia Board for Christian Counselors
The purpose of the Georgia Board for Christian Counselors is to provide accountability for Christian and/or pastoral counselors through board certification. We believe that all Christian counselors should be qualified and held accountable for their practices.
Our standards reflect the highest calling of our faith. The Georgia Board for Christian Counselors provides board certification for Christian and/or pastoral counselors who are committed to providing a high level of professionalism by using Biblical principles and conforming to our Statement of Faith and Code of Ethics. They must also follow established standards, personal; integrity, and continual excellence through ongoing education and training.
Certification is available as a Christian counselor and/or as a pastoral counselor. To apply, complete the application, selecting either Christian Counselor or Pastoral Counselor as applicable. Ensure that you have included all required attachments and submit the completed application along with the $250 nonrefundable application fee. The fee may be submitted via credit card or to the address listed on the form.
